NFL cutdown day is just a few days away, and one Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback has been linked as a potential trade candidate before teams finalize their final 53-man rosters.
According to CBS Sports' Bryan DeArdo, Steelers quarterback Will Howard is a trade candidate heading into roster cutdown day, given the emergence of Drew Allar this past month.
"Howard is one of two quarterbacks the Steelers could trade if they are given the right offer," DeArdo wrote. "The other is veteran quarterback Mason Rudolph, although it appears -- based on McCarthy's recent comments --- that his spot on Pittsburgh's 53-man roster is secure.
"That leaves Howard as the potential odd man out if McCarthy doesn't put each of his four quarterbacks on the active roster.
Rookie Drew Allar hasn't thoroughly outplayed Howard, but he's nonetheless done enough to seal his spot on the 53-man roster."
DeArdo added that while Howard could be stashed on the practice squad, another team could quickly swoop in and sign him, which is why a trade would make the most sense.
Honestly, there's a legitimate possibility that the Steelers opt to keep four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, which would dash the Howard trade rumors.
