Another wide receiver trade rumor has hit the Pittsburgh Steelers and pertains to the future of Ladd McConkey of the Los Angeles Chargers. Although there hasn't been as much buzz surrounding McConkey to the Steelers as other wide receivers, we at Steelers Wire have predicted what a potential deal could look like.
The Chargers, who sit at a dreadful 0-7, are expected to field a few trade calls as the November 10 deadline approaches. It isn't clear if Los Angeles would be interested in trading one of their top pass catchers in McConkey. But the Steelers have a clear need at wide receiver, and it's unlikely that the Chargers are going to be playing any meaningful football in 2026 or even 2027 for that matter. We believe the Steelers could potentially
acquire McConkey for a third-round pick and a Day 3 pick.
Steelers receive:
- WR Ladd McConkey
Chargers receive:
- 2027 third-round draft pick
- 2028 sixth-round draft pick (from Green Bay Packers)
Why it makes sense
The Chargers were expected to take a major step forward under new offensive leadership in 2026, but unfortunately, that didn't play out the way the team had hoped. After an 0-7 start, it wouldn't be surprising if the Chargers engaged in a complete fire sale on both sides of the ball.
That's where McConkey comes into play, as he may be one of their most valuable trade assets on offense. If Los Angeles is forced to undergo a rebuild scenario over the next season or two, the Steelers would make an excellent landing spot for the former second-round wide receiver.
The Steelers' offense could use a wide receiver like McConkey, who excels at separation out of the slot, and it would be excellent value for the team to give up one of their third-round picks to acquire him.
