The Pittsburgh Steelers' contractual impasse with Joey Porter Jr. has been a concerning storyline plaguing the Steel City over the past month. But the Steelers just provided a key update on the situation with Porter.
Speaking with reporters on Monday, Steelers general manager Omar Khan made it clear that he expects Porter to be back at practice following his activation off the physically unable to perform list, dashing any speculation about a potential holdout.
“In the next couple of weeks, not just Joey, but anyone that we feel is healthy and available to us, we expect him to practice,” Khan said. “He got taken off [PUP]. Our medical staff felt like he was good to go.”
Porter, who was drafted by the Steelers with the 32nd overall pick in the 2023
NFL Draft, has emerged as one of the league's top lockdown cornerbacks.
Likely seeking an extension that could reset the already $30 million-plus cornerback market, Porter may refuse to play without a new contract. But the Steelers have made their feelings known: they expect him to be there when they need him.
