Trade rumors surrounding Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. have seemingly intensified to a point of no return, as one report indicates a move to the NFC North is imminent.
According to NFL reporter Evan Sidery, the Lions are "making progress" with the Steelers involving a Porter trade, with Pittsburgh, though unlikely to receive a first-round pick, looking to pick up a second-round selection. Sidery also added that the Cowboys have spoken to Pittsburgh about a potential deal for Porter.
"The Lions and Steelers are making progress towards a trade involving disgruntled star cornerback Joey Porter Jr.," Sidery wrote via X. "The Cowboys have also spoken with Pittsburgh about a potential deal for Porter. Pittsburgh won’t receive a 1st,
but they’re holding out for a 2nd-round selection."
At this point, the Steelers would be better off holding onto Porter if the team won't receive a first-round draft pick in a potential trade. Porter was drafted with the 32nd overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft and solidified himself as one of the best lockdown cornerbacks in the league, not allowing a single touchdown since 2023.
Pittsburgh holds all the cards in the situation and should force Porter to play out his rookie deal, then restart negotiations following a franchise tag designation next offseason.
