The Pittsburgh Steelers made multiple roster moves ahead of their Week 5 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, which included the signing of a familiar face at defensive back.
On Saturday, the Steelers signed defensive back Doneiko Slaughter to their 53-man roster, elevated running back Lew Nichols and wide receiver Brandon Smith to the active/inactive roster for the Week 5 game against the Colts, and officially placed wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. on injured reserve.

Slaughter, who was solid in training camp and preseason, appeared in four games for the Steelers this season but was waived on October 5. He is now back in the Steel City and could see a huge
role in Week 5 with Jamel Dean (ankle) ruled out.
Pittman, who led the team with 58 receiving yards in Week 1, suffered a foot injury in Week 2 that was ultimately reaggravated during Week 5 practice. Pittman will miss at least the next four games on injured reserve.
Nichols' practice squad elevation in Week 5 will be his third and maximum, meaning that the Steelers would need to sign him to their 53-man roster if they wanted him to appear in games moving forward.
Smith, a training camp standout for Pittsburgh, will make his 2026 debut if he appears in Sunday's game against the Colts. He is available to be elevated from the practice squad two more times this season.
