An earlier report by ESPN indicated that Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. would not suit up on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. This is due to a combination of factors including a reported back injury and a much more public contract dispute.
However, during the pregame broadcast, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that there are some within the Steelers organization who think Porter Jr. might blink and play against the Falcons after all.
“Despite the ESPN report that it’s “unlikely” Porter will suit up against the Falcons at 1:00 p.m. ET, some within the organization still believe he’ll blink," Schefter said. "Regardless of a contract that pays less than $4 million in 2026, Porter is in a contract year. His best
play could be to play and to play well, setting the stage for a shot at the open market in 2027 or, worst-case scenario, the franchise tag.”
