On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers finished trimming their 90-man training camp roster down to 53, and this included all 10 of the Steelers picks from the 2027 NFL Draft. One of those picks was former Navy running back Eli Heidenreich. Heidenreich was the Steelers seventh-round pick and is a Mount Lebanon native.
Heidenreich spoke to the media after practice on Wednesday and shared the bizarre story of how he found out he made the team via Twitter and not a phone call or even a text.
“I saw it posted on Twitter, the official roster from the Steelers," Heidenreich said. "There’s no phone call or anything. So it’s quite the anxious day waiting around, but pretty excited.”
This is a wild way to do things that he couldn't get so much as a text from
a position coach or anything prior to the team announcing the roster. It makes you wonder how, if at all, the team notifies players who are being released or it if they simply find out via the internet as well.
