It's finally game week and the Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing to take on the Atlanta Falcons. The Steelers landed a rare home game to open the season, and itis imperative for Pittsburgh to get off to a hot start under new head coach Mike McCarthy.
The Steelers have turned over a huge chunk of the roster and implemented new systems on offense and defense but this doesn't mean things are settled. In fact, we have some serious worries this week and here are the big four of them.
Right side of the offensive line
The Steelers have made no official announcement about who the starting right guard or right tackle will be but no matter who it is, things won't be great on that side. We expect it to be Spencer Anderson at guard and Dylan Cook at tackle, despite their struggles in preseason
but a lack of options.
Preparing for a Falcons quarterback
The Falcons have yet to name a starting quarterback and whichever guy who wins the job will bring a very different experience for the Steelers defense. On paper, the level of talent the Steelers have on defense should neutralize any special edge they might have, but we worry about the lack of time to prepare.
Will Joey Porter Jr. play?
Labor Day would be a great day for Porter Jr. and the Steelers to agree on a new contract so Porter Jr. can start practice this week and play on Sunday. However, we don't expect that to happen and this situation will come right down to gameday as to whether or not Porter Jr. is going to hold out.
Knocking off the rust
Unfortunately, McCarthy took the approach of not playing the team's top players, despite not having any tackling at practice or joint practices. This means the first live action for guys like Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr., among others, they could take some time to knock off the rust.
