Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. has been in headlines for all the wrong reasons just days away from the Week 2 matchup against the New England Patriots. It begs the question: will Porter play in the Steelers' Week 2 road game versus the Patriots? Well, the Steelers had no choice but to give a definitive answer via Friday's injury report.
Porter left Thursday's session early with the Steelers' medical staff and received a limited participant designation on Friday's injury report. Many have speculated the absence has little to do with health concerns and more to do with contractual frustrations, but it hardly matters: Porter has been ruled out for Pittsburgh's Week 2 matchup against New England.

Porter, drafted by the Steelers with the 32nd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has emerged as one of the league's top lockdown cornerbacks over the past three seasons. In the final year of his rookie deal, Porter was looking for a huge contract extension in a cornerback market that's been reset multiple times in the past few months. Whether the issue has to do with guaranteed money or average annual value, Porter and the Steelers can't seem to come to an agreement.
From trade rumors to reports claiming that Porter may have already played his last snap in Pittsburgh, the future looks bleak for the young Steelers cornerback. In an ideal world, Porter returns to the Steelers and plays out his rookie deal. But that will have to wait until Week 3 at the earliest following his latest injury designation.
