The dust has settled on the Pittsburgh Steelers and their roster cuts down to 53 heading into the regular season. It was a wild day with more to come this week as the team works on sorting out the practice squads. Here are our big takeaways from roster cuts and everything else from Sunday.
11 rookies on the roster
The Steelers kept all 10 drafted rookies as well as undrafted rookie Kevin Jobity Jr. on the 53-man roster. This is a remarkable number in the current NFL with several rookies looking with signficiant roles this season.
4 quarterbacks means they have none?
Four teams kept four quarterbacks on the active roster but the Steelers are the only one not taking criticism for it. Keeping Will Howard was a surprise after a poor preseason and we still think he could end up on IR.
Help at offensive tackle is needed
The Steelers kept nine offensive
linemen on the 53-man roster but they are thin at offensive tackle. This is the spot we are most worried about going into the season.
Oldest team in the NFL
Somehow, even with so many rookies on the roster, the Steelers are still the oldest roster in the NFL.
Cutting Elandon Roberts was a mistake
We hope Elandon Roberts finds his way back to the team and still don't understand why you bring him in late if you don't plan to keep him on the team.
Trades overshadowed cuts
Pittsburgh traded offensive tackle Broderick Jones and running back Kaleb Johnson, overshadowing most of the roster moves. This is a horrible look for General Manager Omar Khan and we worry in particular about giving up on Jones.
