With the addition of head coach Mike McCarthy, the Pittsburgh Steelers have revamped the offensive roster and brought in an entirely new system, but which units are on top heading into the regular season? Pittsburgh is just over a week away from the start of the season and a big Week One home showdown against the Atlanta Falcons.
Last season, the Steelers offense was a liability and struggled to keep pace with opposing teams, which then, in turn, put entirely too much pressure on the Steelers defense. We poured over the roster after cuts and have ranked the offensive positional units.
1 - Interior offensive line
The combination of center Zach Frazier and guard Mason McCormick are among the best in the AFC. We aren't sold on Spencer Anderson as a high-level answer at right
guard but he's a solid starter and is keeping the seat warm for rookie Gennings Dunker.
2 - Wide receiver
We weren't wowed by the addition of Michael Pittman Jr. as some sort of replacement after trading George Pickens away the year before and he's 100 percent a downgrade. But he, along with rookie Germie Bernard as better than what the Steelers had last season.
3 - Running back
Pittsburgh has a combo of Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle, both of which are capable of rushing for 1,000 yards. However, neither guy is a feature back and will need to work off one another to keep opposing defenses honest.
4 - Tight end
We could have easily put tight end at No. 5 and quarterback at No. 4 but we are holding out hope that Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington and Robert Tonyan will thrive in the Steelers offense because they have plenty of talent.
5 - Quarterback
Aaron Rodgers will turn 43 before the end of the season and McCarthy and the Steelers are all-in on winning this season with him under center and very little behind him. If Rodgers goes down, the season is over.
6 - Offensive tackle
We expect Troy Fautanu to eventually find his groove at left tackle and play well but his preseason struggles are a factor in putting this group last. But bigger than that, the Steelers have a huge problem at right tackle between Dylan Cook and Max Iheanachor.
