According to a report by NFL Network reporter Mike Garofolo, the Pittsburgh Steelers have made a contract offer to starting cornerback Joey Porter Jr. However, according to Garofolo, the two sides are not close in terms of money and it remains to be seen if the two sides will be able to come together before the start of the regular season.
Porter Jr. has spent all of training camp on the PUP list until this past week, while he dealt with what the team called a back injury. However, because Porter Jr. was hurt and unable to practice or play, the Steelers didn't want to negotiate with him at all. Porter Jr. has been getting in some work in drills as he "ramps up," as head coach Mike McCarthy put it during a press conference.

It is good to hear the two sides are actively negotiating but we remain cautiously optimistic about the two sides getting a deal done in the next five days. If they cannot, attention will turn to if Porter Jr. is planning to hold out or play the season.
