In what is being described as one of the biggest changes under Mike McCarthy's new regime for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team made a big announcement on Monday.
According to McCarthy, the seasonal team captains Steelers fans have become familiar with are a thing of the past, as weekly team captains are how Pittsburgh will do things moving forward.
"Mike McCarthy says they're not naming captains for the entire season, but they will instead be naming weekly captains," Penn Live's Nick Farabaugh reported via X.
In 2025, Aaron Rodgers, Cameron Heyward, T.J. Watt and former Steeler Miles Killebrew were named team captains for their respective offensive, defensive and special teams units.
McCarthy has done this previously with the Green Bay Packers
and Dallas Cowboys, opting to rotate game-day captains on a week-to-week basis versus having players hold the positions for entire seasons.
