At this point, almost no one really knows what's going on with Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. and his potential availability during the 2026 season. But one report provided a concerning update on Porter if he fails to play for the Steelers soon.
According to a report from 93.7 The Fan's Andrew Fillipponi, Porter "could be in danger of breaching his contract" if he doesn't suit up against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3, a troubling development in the never-ending drama with the Steelers.
"REPORT: Joey Porter Jr. could be in danger of breach of contract if he doesn't play Sunday, per our 937 The Fan Steelers insider Jeff Hathhorn," Fillipponi wrote via X. "The Steelers no longer list him as injured. And a CBS report said he's been
cleared by the Steelers the play. Porter could be placed on a reserve list. In that scenario he would not get paid. This is getting uglier by the day."
Similar to last week's injury report, the Steelers once again removed Porter's back injury designation and listed him strictly as NIR/conditioning for Wednesday and Thursday's practices in the buildup to Week 3's game against the Bengals.
Previously, we at Steelers Wire projected that Porter could face fines of up to $218,000 in salary for every regular-season game he misses, in addition to risking nearly $250,000 in signing-bonus forfeiture.
Although Porter told reporters that he'll "definitely" play for the Steelers this season, he didn't exactly commit to being available on Sunday. His availability will certainly be one to keep an eye on, especially with rumored fines hanging in the balance.
