In just one day, the Pittsburgh Steelers will kick off the regular season when they take on the Atlanta Falcons. We figure we should go ahead and throw out our predictions for the Steelers superlatives for the upcoming season.
Team MVP - Quarterback Aaron Rodgers
Sorry, but if the Steelers win this year, it'll be because of Aaron Rodgers and he is the key to the offense.
Offensive player of the year - Wide receiver DK Metcalf
This new system and the new players on offense will open things up for DK Metcalf and he finishes with career highs in catches and yards.
Defensive player of the year - Defensive end Derrick Harmon
This one might be a surprise but the defense was a completely different unit with him on the field. We expect him to expand his game well beyond being an elite run defender.
Offensive rookie of the year - Wide receiver Germie Bernard
Without much competition, Germie Bernard gets the nod here even though he won't put up huge numbers.
Defensive rookie of the year - Cornerback Daylen Everett
The Steelers
are going to get contributions from several rookies on defense but we like Everett to be the top if Joey Porter Jr. holds out.
Comeback player of the year - CB Asante Samuel Jr.
The Steelers do not have a true comeback player who is coming off an injury so we give Samuel the nod after joining the team late last season and only playing limited snaps but it poised for a huge workload this season.
Assistant coach of the year - Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham
We have to give some props here to Graham, who we believe will be the coach who finally maximizes all the talent the Steelers have on defense.
