If it wasn't clear before, it definitely is now: the Pittsburgh Steelers have a deadline in mind for Joey Porter Jr. and his desired contract extension.
According to Steelers general manager Omar Khan, the team's policy of not engaging in contract negotiations during the regular season will continue, which isn't great news for Porter.ter.
"We won't talk publicly about the negotiations per se, but Joey knows how we feel about him, and I still hope Joey finishes his career here," Khan said via ESPN's Brooke Pryor. "… Our policy is going to remain in place, but I'm not going to talk about negotiations."
Porter, who was drafted by the Steelers with the 32nd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, is expected to reset the $30 million-plus cornerback market
with his next contract. It's evident the Steelers are hesitant to hand out such a historic deal.
Over the past several weeks, Steelers fans have seen Porter dominate headlines through contract speculation, trade rumors, cryptic social media posts, and more. Unfortunately, if the Steelers and Porter don't strike a deal soon, the noise is all we'll ever hear about until the end of the 2026 season.
