The post-Mike Tomlin era is off to a rocky start in Pittsburgh and all eyes are on new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy. The team is currently 2-2 and the criticisms of McCarthy's style as a coach and his methods are getting louder.
One of those critics is Steelers writer and radio personality Mark Madden. He is never shy about his criticisms of the team but in this case, instead of aiming the team's shortcomings at McCarthy, he looked at it from a different point of view and blamed the Tomlin mindset and the hangover from it for why players aren't performing for McCarthy.
“It just a slop-fest," McCarthy said." It would be easy to blame McCarthy, the new guy, and lots of agendas get served by doing that. I go in the opposite direction. It feels
like, after 19 years of Mike Tomlin, the jerky kids in the class are treating McCarthy like a substitute teacher. Like certain players resent actually being coached. They miss the familiar laissez-faire mushy-middle method.”
