Injuries are a huge part of the NFL, and the Pittsburgh Steelers are certainly dealing with their fair share heading into Week 3. To make matters worse, the team received a troubling injury update on one of their standout running backs.
According to PennLive's Nick Farabaugh, several previously injured Steelers were spotted during the open media practice period, but running back Rico Dowdle (toe) was not among those participating. Farabaugh reported that this is "likely trending towards him being out" for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Dowdle suffered his toe injury in Week 2's loss to the New England Patriots in an attempt to recover Aaron Rodgers' massive fumble. He was able to return to the game in the second half after being
carted off but was ruled out in the fourth quarter.
Dowdle, who joined the Steelers on a two-year deal this past March, is attempting to make history in 2026 by becoming the first running back to rush for 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons with three different NFL teams. Any missed time will obviously make this task much more difficult.
