The Pittsburgh Steelers made a major long-term commitment to their pass-rush rotation this offseason. They secured outside linebacker Nick Herbig with a four-year extension worth up to $100 million.
Appearing on “The Christian Kuntz Podcast,” the 24-year-old opened up about what the life-changing deal means for his family and how learning alongside T.J. Watt has elevated his game.
Reflecting on the milestone, Herbig expressed deep gratitude for the financial security and the chance to remain in Black and Gold through his prime.
"Truly, super honored and blessed to be in the Black and Gold for another four years," Herbig said. "Get to take care of my family, get to take care of the boys. A real surreal moment. Sometimes it still doesn't feel real,
to be honest."
Herbig’s rapid development into one of the league's most efficient pass rushers is no accident. While his brother first taught him the fundamentals, advising him to "just have one move and get off the ball," it was pairing up with Watt in Pittsburgh that refined his technique.
Host and teammate Christian Kuntz noted that Watt openly praised Herbig's study habits, though Herbig insists the learning flow goes both ways.
"I will say he did take that part of my game to the next level. Fair. 100%," Herbig admitted regarding Watt's guidance on hand combat. "I met T.J. my sophomore year, and then he was showing me those drills and stuff, and then kind of just took off from there."
Despite signing a contract that makes him one of the team's core foundational pieces, Herbig maintains that his production is only beginning.
"To me, it's just a start," Herbig emphasized. "I'm 24. I'm still young, going on year four. So, this is just a start, you know. I'm ready to bring a Super Bowl back to the city."
