According to NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, the Pittsburgh Steelers expect to have running back Rico Dowdle back this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dowdle has been sidelined with a sprained toe for the past three weeks. The Steelers added Dowdle in free agency this offseason to add punch to the rushing offense but so far his impact has been negligible.
In Dowdle's absence, starting running back Jaylen Warren has flourished. Running backs aside from Warren has only had four carries in three games and Warren has been maybe the best running back in the AFC during that stretch.
Here are Warren's numbers during the three-game stretch:
- Rushing: 49 carries for 321 yards (6.55 yards per carry) and 1 touchdown
- Receiving: 12 receptions for 169 yards and 1 touchdown
- Total Scrimmage: 61 touches for 490 yards and 2 total touchdowns
Steelers RB Rico Dowdle (questionable, toe) is expected to play Sunday vs. Bucs, per source. Dowdle has been out
since Week 2.
