It seems that the Pittsburgh Steelers cannot string together two good games in a row, but Sunday's 34-22 win over the Indianapolis Colts was one of the best versions of this team, especially on offense. The win improves the Steelers' record to 3-2 heading into next week's road showdown with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Here are the big takeaways from the win.
Non-existent pass rush
With so many key players missing from the secondary, the pass rush needed to step up. And they didn't. The Steelers overpriced trio of T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith and Nick Herbig failed to register so much as a quarterback hit, much less a sack.
Wide receiver injuries piling up
Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek both got hurt and after the game, Wilson was seen with his wrist heavily wrapped. You add in Michael Pittman Jr. who went
on IR this week and it leaves just four viable receivers and all eyes on rookie Germie Bernard who had a big game on Sunday.
Jaylen Warren is still the focus of the offense
The best thing that could happen to Jaylen Warren was for Rico Dowdle to sprain his toe. It has allowed him over the last three weeks to show he can be a feature back in this offense. Warren finished with 188 yards of offense and two touchdowns, including an 80-yard touchdown reception and a 50-yard touchdown run.
Special teams continue to struggle
We don't talk about it enough but the Steelers return teams, in particular the kickoff return team has been awful this season. Seeing how poorly this group has performed makes us all miss Danny Smith.
