The Pittsburgh Steelers received a Week 6 injury update on running back Rico Dowdle, who's missed several games in 2026 with a double toe dislocation.
Courtesy of the first Week 6 injury report, Dowdle practiced as a limited participant on Wednesday and appears to be trending in the right direction to be available for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On Monday, HC Mike McCarthy expressed optimism about Dowdle's eventual return, claiming he was "definitely close to getting back."
Dowdle, who signed with the Steelers as a free agent in March 2026, was potentially on the verge
of making history this season, previously hoping to become the first running back to rush for 1,000 yards with three different teams in three consecutive seasons. Considering running back Jaylen Warren's career emergence over the past few weeks and Dowdle's missed time this season, the odds of achieving such a feat seem very low.
Still, Dowdle remains a talented running back and should provide the Steelers with key depth behind Warren whenever healthy. We'll keep a close eye on his practice availability in the coming days, which should give us a better idea of whether or not Dowdle will suit up in Week 6.
