With just days to the start of the regular season, the Pittsburgh Steelers front office is busy working on contracts., According to NFL reporter Field Yates, the Steelers have agreed to restructure the contract of wide receiver DK Metcalf freeing up nearly $18 million in salary cap space.
We assume this move is in anticipation of a contract between the Steelers and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. The regular season kicks off in just over two weeks and if the two sides haven't agreed to terms, there won't be a deal in place in 2026 and Porter would have to play out his current contract.
The Steelers have restructured the contract of WR DK Metcalf, converting base salary into a signing bonus and creating nearly $18M in 2026 salary cap space.

to recent reports, the Steelers haven't made an offer to Porter Jr. at all yet since he's been on the PUP list throughout training camp and hasn't been able to practice. We could see a lot of dominoes fall in a hurry with the news of Metcalf's restructure. For Metcalf, this moves salary to bonus and doesn't impact him negatively at all.
