The Pittsburgh Steelers have a massive need at cornerback thanks to injuries and the Joey Porter Jr. trade, but there may be a few options available before the NFL trade deadline on November 11.
From a veteran defender who's seen a reduced role to a Pro Bowler on a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, here's a look at three cornerback targets the Steelers could pursue at the trade deadline.
Kristian Fulton, Kansas City Chiefs
Fulton is in the final year of his current deal with Kansas City and, despite starting 54 career games, has taken on a backup role with the Chiefs over the past two seasons. Fulton could definitely use a change of scenery where he's able to compete for a bigger role on defense, and Pittsburgh would be one such landing spot. Injuries and inconsistent
play have hampered Fulton's value, which actually could work out in the Steelers' favor.
Carrington Valentine, Green Bay Packers
Pittsburgh was linked to Valentine in August, and now that Porter is gone, a trade with Green Bay would make perfect sense. Valentine, a fourth-year cornerback, has appeared in 53 games for the Packers and made 30 starts. With Carrington playing just 13% of defensive snaps for Green Bay this season, a trade may be near, and the Steelers need to make sure he winds up in the Steel City.
Tariq Woolen, Philadelphia Eagles
Given the Eagles' recent fire sale of talent, and that Riq Woolen is on a one-year deal, it's fair to assume Philadelphia would be willing to listen to offers for the Pro Bowl cornerback, and the Steelers would be wise to pay close attention. Running a 4.26 at 6-foot-4, Woolen possesses an elite size and speed combination that Pittsburgh should take a chance on. He's definitely had his ups and downs, but Woolen would be an excellent attempt at replacing Porter in the short term.
