Following a disappointing loss to the Cleveland Browns, Ben Roethlisberger set his sights on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ upcoming matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Speaking on his podcast, “Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger
,” the former franchise quarterback outlined a clear offensive blueprint for the Steelers. Roethlisberger said the Pittsburgh offense must attack a vulnerable Indianapolis secondary downfield.Roethlisberger pointed to secondary statistics, noting that Indianapolis surrendered over 1,000 passing yards and eight touchdowns across their first four games.
"Aaron Rogers should attack the Colts secondary. Indy's surrendered over 1,000 passing yards through four games. So, that's 276 a game. Eight passing touchdowns. This has
the makings of the potential of Aaron being able to get the ball out down the field and letting the secondary get abused."
To unlock that potential, Roethlisberger emphasized stretching the field vertically with wide receiver DK Metcalf while utilizing an improving Roman Wilson on underneath routes. While Metcalf has produced solid yardage totals, Roethlisberger believes Pittsburgh has yet to fully exploit his deep threat capability.
"Getting Metcalf involved down the field [is key]. Right now, obviously he's got 213 yards, but they haven't really gotten down the field much. I would like to see them stretch it and I'd like to see what Roman can do underneath."
Beyond vertical passing, Roethlisberger highlighted turnover margin as a critical factor. Pittsburgh enters the game at plus-two in turnover differential, while Indianapolis sits at minus-six.
Paired with a schedule advantage, the Steelers are enjoying extra rest following a Thursday night game while the Colts return from a London trip. Roethlisberger expects Pittsburgh to capitalize on those advantages.
Predicting a 27-21 Steelers victory, Roethlisberger believes an aggressive aerial assault will force Colts quarterback Daniel Jones into making mistakes, allowing Pittsburgh's defense to close out the game.
