The Pittsburgh Steelers shocked the NFL by trading offensive tackle Broderick Jones to the Dallas Cowboys ahead of final roster cuts, and one surprising detail of the deal has since emerged.
It was reported that the Steelers sent Jones and a fourth-round pick to the Cowboys in exchange for a third- and a sixth-round pick. But a new report indicates that the sixth-round pick being sent to Pittsburgh was actually the Steelers' original pick sent to Dallas in the George Pickens trade.
"The 2027 6th round pick the Cowboys are sending back to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Broderick Jones trade is the pick the Cowboys acquired in the George Pickens trade last year, per source," Cowboys beat writer Joseph Hoyt wrote via X. "Cowboys still have their
own 6th rounder. Steelers get their own 6th back."
Hilariously enough, the compensation connects the Pickens trade to the Jones' deal, in addition to reuniting the two former Steelers in Dallas. This could also work out in the Steelers’ favor if the Cowboys finish the 2026 season with a better record than Pittsburgh, as the Steelers are getting their own sixth-round pick back rather than Dallas’ potentially later selection.
