The strategy worked flawlessly. Garrett finished the game recording zero tackles, zero sacks, zero quarterback hits, and no passes defended. His lack of output matched an overall disappointing evening for the Rams, who stumbled to a 27-7 defeat on international soil.
Speaking to reporters post-game, Garrett acknowledged his frustrating start with his new franchise.
"This was the worst version of myself that I've put out there," Garrett said in his postgame press conference after the Rams' loss. "And I've got to be better. I got to find a way to recover and get back to the player I know I can be and I've shown that I've been before."
Rams head coach Sean McVay echoed the frustration regarding their defensive front's inability to break through.
"They outplayed us in every facet. I didn't do nearly a good enough job. This is a humbling day for us," McVay said in his postgame press conference. "This will define us only if we allow it to. Today was one of those days. I always look inside out. I didn't do a good enough job getting us ready to go. There were some opportunities where maybe the game could've flipped, but they deserved the win. They were ready to go.”
More concerning that even Garrett’s performance is the fact that he acknowledged that he isn’t feeling 100%. This could create more issues for the Rams' defense going forward.
While Pittsburgh supporters certainly won't mourn his quiet debut, Garrett will look to shake off his quiet Aussie outing as the Rams return stateside.
