The Pittsburgh Steelers saw one of their recent trade busts find a new home in the NFC North.
On Thursday, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that former Steelers tight end Jonnu Smith is set to sign a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers, his newest opportunity after being released by Pittsburgh this past March.

Smith, who was drafted by the Titans in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, played four seasons in Tennessee (2017-2020) before joining the New England Patriots in free agency. He went on to play two seasons with the Patriots (2021-2022)
and one with the Atlanta Falcons (2023) before undergoing a breakout year with the Miami Dolphins in 2024.
He earned Pro Bowl recognition for his standout season with Miami, in which he recorded 884 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. Smith was looking for an extension after his successful 2024 season, but Miami was hesitant, ultimately trading him and Jalen Ramsey to the Steelers in exchange for Minkah Fitzpatrick and a late-round pick swap in June 2025.
Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, Smith's production as a receiving threat was abysmal last season, as the former Pro Bowler caught just 38 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns in the Aaron Rodgers-led offense. Hopefully, his time with Green Bay will be more fruitful, as the veteran tight end didn't show a lot to love during his 2025 season with Pittsburgh.
