Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up the preseason schedule with a 28-27 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The final score is irrelevant and there are far bigger takeaways from this game with just three days until the team has to trim the 90-man training camp roster down to just 53 players.
The offensive line is a mess
In just a couple of weeks, this team is going to take the field in a regular season game and the right side of the offensive line is a mess. There's a real chance that Broderick Jones, who saw his replacement drafted in 2026 win the starting right tackle job. And we have no idea what the answer is at right guard but it doesn't seem to be anyone on the roster.
Quarterback decisions coming to a close
For a second-straight week, the Steelers two young quarterbacks underwhelmed and made life hard
on head coach Mike McCarthy. Neither Drew Allar nor Will Howard separated themselves, and neither seems worth being a fourth quarterback on the active roster.
Elandon Roberts is going to make this team
Whether it is Malik Harrison, Cole Holcomb or Carson Breuner, someone has to go so Elandon Roberts can make the team. Signed off the street, Roberts hasn't lost a step and is the veteran the defense needs.
Eli Heidenreich won't but he should
We predicted that Lew Nichols would be the team's third running back and we are sticking with that. However, rookie Eli Heidenreich is worth a spot on this roster, even if he ends up on the practice squad.
We have no idea what this team will look like in the regular season
Between terrible offensive line play and so many starters sitting out, we have no idea what this offense will look like. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has sat out the entire preseason and starting wide receivers Michael Pittman Jr. and DK Metcalf have both been hurt.
Hard to judge Drew Allar
To be fair to Allar, he has gone two weeks in a row as the team's second-half quarterback, which makes evaluating him even more challenging. He's throwing to guys who won't make the team and being blocked by guys who might not either.
