Veteran linebacker Elandon Roberts is sticking with what works. Despite drawing interest from several franchises across the league during his free agency period, Roberts ultimately made the decision to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers for another chapter.
Steelers beat writer Nick Farabaugh shared on X how Roberts felt about being away and why he chose to come back to the Steel City.
"Elandon Roberts said while he was away from the Steelers, he had a personal issue that would have caused him to miss time with the team, anyways. It’s now cleared up. He said he had interest from multiple teams, but chose to return to the Steelers again. He feels comfortable with the players and coaching staff around him," Farabaugh shared.

The update clarifies the timeline surrounding Roberts’ recent absence. While fans and analysts speculated about his status, Roberts explained that a personal matter required his full attention, a situation that would have kept him off the field regardless of contract negotiations. With that issue now fully resolved, the focus turns back to football and his continuation in Pittsburgh's defense.
For the Steelers, retaining Roberts secures a crucial anchor inside the defense. Known for his hard-hitting, downhill physical play and veteran locker room leadership, Roberts proved to be an essential presence in stabilizing the defense. His choice to stay in Pittsburgh despite outside offers highlights the culture the staff and front office have fostered.
Roberts prioritized familiarity and scheme fit over starting fresh elsewhere. His trust in the coaching staff and chemistry with his teammates played a decisive role in pulling him back to the Steel City. Now fully focused and back with the team, Roberts gives the Steelers consistency and reliable veteran depth as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
