If there's any player who knows what Joey Porter Jr. is going through with the Pittsburgh Steelers, it's Le'Veon Bell. And the former Steelers running back has come to Porter's defense amid the contract controversy in Pittsburgh.
Taking to social media to defend Porter, Bell called out the Steelers for refusing to deviate from the team's policies regarding contract negotiations.
"Man, I hope the Steelers just pay JPJ," Bell wrote via X. "At some point things gotta change."
There are two policies Bell could be referencing when claiming "things gotta change" about the way Pittsburgh handles contracts: guaranteed money beyond the first year and negotiating deals midseason. Both areas of criticism are likely weighing heavily on Porter's contract drama.
Bell, however, is no stranger to contract controversy himself, as the former Steelers running back infamously played under the franchise tag in 2017 before sitting out the entire 2018 season following failed contract talks.
Bell was never able to recapture his previous greatness after sitting out and eventually leaving Pittsburgh. At some point, Porter has to see a similar situation playing out with his own contract and agree to play for the Steelers on his rookie deal.
