The Pittsburgh Steelers have been without one of their star running backs for the past two weeks, and the player in question has just revealed some gruesome details about his injury.
According to Will Graves of The Associated Press, Steelers running back Rico Dowdle revealed that he dislocated one of his toes in the Week 2 loss to the New England Patriots. After having it put back in place, Dowdle returned to the game in the second half, only to have it pop back out once again. He added that the "tissues around the joint" need to heal, which is the biggest setback currently.
Dowdle, who signed with the Steelers this offseason on a two-year deal, was attempting to make NFL history by becoming the first running back to rush for 1,000 yards with three
different teams in three consecutive seasons. Unfortunately, this setback, coupled with Jaylen Warren's red-hot start, has dashed his hopes for the time being.
Luckily for the Steelers, Dowdle was able to return to practice as a limited participant ahead of the Week 5 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Hopefully, Dowdle can pick back up where he left off as a solid RB1B to Warren's RB1A moving forward.
