It's not a Joey Porter Jr. contract extension but the Steelers are getting another top DB back with the announcement that the team is activating defensive back Jalen Ramsey from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list on Monday. This means Ramsey will return to practice and should be ready to roll at the start of the regular season and offer some insurance in the defensive secondary, should Porter Jr. choose to hold out.
The Steelers have been without Ramsey and Porter Jr. throughout training camp with both on the PUP list. But their absences have afforded excellent opportunities for Asante Samuel Jr. and Daylen Everett to get reps alongside Jamel Dean.
Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham has said he plans to use Ramsey as a cornerback and
hybrid linebacker. Ramsey moved to safety last season due to injuries and played at a Pro Bowl level but will see a position change this time around. Ramsey could play more cornerback if Porter Jr. doesn't start the year but the play of Samuel and the rookie Everett has taken a lot of pressure of the defense in terms of the cornerback rotation.
