Several fantasy running backs crushed market expectations in Week 1. Are they for real, or should managers look elsewhere?
If you drafted David Montgomery, congratulations. The last thing you want to read is someone warning you about a potential slump. But bookmark this page and come back to it in a month. You might find that Montgomery is deceptively TD-dependent.
In Week 1, that paid off in a huge way. But he also averaged only 3.0 yards per carry. After breaking only three tackles on 182 touches last year, he didn't break any tackles on Sunday. His "greatness" cannot be sustained with such awful advanced metrics.
Chuba Hubbard was Week 1's RB10 despite touching the ball only 13 times. It helps that he faced an anemic Bears defense, that he scored
twice, and that Jonathon Brooks is still ramping up. Hubbard is an ideal sell-high running back. He's both talented and overvalued.
Devin Singletary will be a fairly popular waiver add for RB-needy managers. But the 29-year-old benefited from Najee Harris still working his way back from a season-ending injury, Tyrone Tracy losing a fumble in the red zone, and the Giants enjoying a positive game script. Those three things might happen a handful of times this season. But managers probably won't be able to guess if/when Singletary might score again, because that's what he needs to be streamable.
