Are you a fantasy manager? Are you as desperate as I am for a dart-throw Week 9 RB? One of two Giants could bring you comfort and joy: Devin Singletary and Greg Desrosiers Jr.
Full disclosure: my Week 9 is looking rough. Four of my five RBs are on injured reserve. Tyler Allgeier is "anchoring" my fantasy backfield. But I need a second option in this 14-team league. The Giants might be my only hope.
They're facing a reeling Eagles team whose defense is allowing 18.2 RB fantasy points per game—the 12th most in the league. Not great. Not bad. For desperate managers like me (and you?), it's a net positive.
With Cam Skattebo doubtful, 29-year-old Devin Singletary is expected to play a meaningful role on a squad that controls its own fate. The Giants
lead the NFC East by 2.5 games. Philly is in last place and probably will remain there, with QB Joe Milton III making his first NFL start. This is a game New York can win against a team that will almost certainly struggle if Saquon Barkley falls short of "incredible."
The problem is that Singletary is rostered in my league. A smart opponent snagged him weeks ago. If he's available in your league, the 29-year-old Singletary brings enough well-rounded abilities (including through the air) to be a good bet for 9+ points.
That leaves Greg Desrosiers Jr., a 25-year-old former undrafted free agent who might or might not get work behind Singletary. This is why the rookie is a true Hail Mary. But hey, I'm desperate. The "best" available RB in my league is 35-year-old Kyle Juszczyk. Desrosiers's one advantage is that he excelled through the air at Memphis, where he caught 53 balls in his final two college seasons.
Singletary or Desrosiers should break through tomorrow. Singletary clearly is the best bet. Desrosiers is a last-ditch dart throw for those with nothing to lose.
