Halfway through the third quarter of the Thursday Night Football matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns, cameras and microphones captured a heated exchange between Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy. Now, McCarthy has since expressed regret for the incident.
Midway through the first quarter, a hot mic caught a frustrated Rodgers gesturing and yelling toward the sideline, "What the [Expletive]? Call it!" The cameras then cut to McCarthy, who looked upset and used profanity, seemingly under his breath, directed at Rodgers.
"Communication sometimes is not the best choice of words, but everybody's competing on the field," McCarthy said. "I think what's said on the field, the way I grew up in this game, usually stays on the field.
That's not the case today. I understand that. But any negative communication on my part, I wish I wouldn't use those words."
Rodgers would discuss how the crowd in Cleveland made it very hard to hear some play calls, saying, "It was loud," Rodgers said. "It was definitely a good crowd tonight. It was loud. So some of the calls, it was hard to hear for sure."
The Steelers would go on to lose the game after a late field goal, 27-24. In Week 5, they will welcome the Indianapolis Colts to town; meanwhile, the Browns will visit the New York Jets.
