For the Week 2 edition of Start/Sit for the NFL QBs, we hit on five out of six picks. If you're a numbers guy like me, that is 83.33%, which is actually very good in fantasy football. We had Jared Goff as a sit for Week 2, and he lit it up with no picks and 4 touchdowns against the Buffalo Bills. Looking ahead to Week 3, we are dealing with some QB questions as well as injuries. Caleb Williams may have dodged a bullet; Jaxson Dart's injury may be worse than originally feared.
Jayden Daniels had another heartbreaking setback, which could result in another few weeks missed, and Michael Penix Jr. is said to have been cleared by team doctors for the NFC South Division Carolina Panthers coming to town and wouldn't give it a go due to personal parameters
and goals not being met yet. That's all hearsay for now, so let's look at who we like and dislike heading into Week 3.
Start - Jared Goff, Detroit Lions
Jared Goff can play the heck out of the quarterback position and is still widely considered underrated in fantasy football. He makes great decisions and rarely turns the ball over. Yet, we sat him against the Bills in Week 2. Just disregard that one! The Jets are much improved, but haven't picked off a pass in a long while. Goff is better at home with a higher clip of touchdowns to interceptions. While hosting the Jets in Detroit, we say start Goff.
Start - Tyler Shough, New Orleans Saints
Shough has impressed so much since last season, and it is time we started taking notice. Huge underdogs against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2- and what does he do? Scores 17 in the 4th quarter and pulls out a win on the road...again. The Saints play the Raiders at home and, while improved, Las Vegas is giving up almost 17 points to opposing QBs. I believe that the road ends here for the Raiders' first loss at the hands of Shough and the Saints.
Start - Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles
I don't think Jalen Hurts is a set-it-and-forget-it QB, but I do like the matchup against the Chicago Bears this week. Chicago has allowed 33.8 points per game so far this season. Historically, since 2025, the Bears have given up the fifth-most points to opposing QBs. Even with a couple of offensive weapons on the shelf, I expect the Eagles to boost those numbers with consistency.
Sit - Malik Willis, Miami Dolphins
Malik Willis currently sits at QB20 in the NFL with only 15.1 points per game. The Dolphins will face the Chiefs, and it will not be any better this week, as the Chiefs allow just over 10 points to opposing QBs. Willis cannot be trusted quite yet to start over several other viable options.
Sit - Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals
This is a bold pick and a tough call. Although Burrow has looked good this season, it is still a bit underwhelming. Burrow has only put up just over 15 points and followed it up with just over 16 in Week 2. Ranked currently at QB19, it's not worth the risk this week against NFC North rival Pittsburgh Steelers, who are hungry for a meaningful win.
Sit - Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
If Mayfield couldn't get it going against a team that he despises, and the one that drafted him, I do not believe that Week 3 will be any different against a very good Minnesota Vikings defense led by Brian Flores. The Vikings held the Bears to 3 points after they almost put up a 60-point game against the Panthers. The jury is still out on the Bears, but sit Mayfield for Week 3 just in case.
