The Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl last season because of their dominant defense. Now, they have locked in a key piece of that defense for the foreseeable future after signing defensive tackle Leonard Williams to a three-year, $90 million contract with $56 million guaranteed.

Williams was originally drafted by the New York Jets back in 2015. He was a finalist for Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2015 and was named to his first Pro Bowl the following year in 2016. He would not return
to the Pro Bowl until his first full season with Seattle in 2024, when he recorded an interception, 11 sacks, and 16 tackles for loss.
Last season, at age 31, Williams had another strong campaign, recording seven sacks and nine tackles for loss during the regular season. He also started all three playoff games for the Seahawks last year and recorded a sack in their first playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round. It was only the second season Williams had played in the playoffs, the first coming in 2023 during his stint with the New York Giants.
This is the second major extension Seattle has given a defensive player in the offseason, after signing cornerback Devon Witherspoon to a four-year, $132 million contract with over $97 million in total guarantees.
Between Williams’ extension, Witherspoon’s extension, other contract extensions the Seahawks negotiated in the offseason, including for wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, their free agent acquisitions, and draft picks such as running back Jadarian Price, Seattle is going all-in to try to run it back and win back-to-back Super Bowls.
