After Week 5 of the NFL season, only three teams remain undefeated. Among them, the San Francisco 49ers have the most impressive wins, including victories over the Los Angeles Rams and Denver Broncos. The Kansas City Chiefs also proved they have returned to form with their win over the Las Vegas Raiders, who are better than most people are giving them credit for.
Despite their loss to the New England Patriots, the Buffalo Bills remain one of the league's best teams, though they are no longer the top team in the NFL. The defending Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks, got back in the win column against the Los Angeles Chargers, who are much worse than expected, and the Baltimore Ravens beat the Tennessee Titans despite not having quarterback
Lamar Jackson in the second half.
Let’s take a look at this week’s power rankings. While the top five are mostly the same, many changes are happening outside the top five.
- San Francisco 49ers (4-0) - Week 4 Ranking: 2
San Francisco has won three of its four games by at least two possessions, including its most recent win against the Denver Broncos. Quarterback Brock Purdy has been one of the NFL's best players so far this year, and Christian McCaffrey has been reliable for them as well. No team in the NFL has more injuries than San Francisco, but they remain unstoppable. Their game this weekend against the Seattle Seahawks should be highly entertaining.
- Kansas City Chiefs (4-0) - Week 4 Ranking: 3
The Chiefs and Raiders entered the matchup undefeated, and Las Vegas gave Kansas City a run for their money, but the Chiefs still came out on top with a 30-27 win despite losing two wide receivers, taking more penalties, losing the time-of-possession battle, and posting fewer total yards. But that is what good teams do - they win even when they are not playing at their best. This team can definitely make it back to the Super Bowl.
- Buffalo Bills (3-1) - Week 4 Ranking: 1
The Bills’ loss to the Patriots was the week's most shocking result, especially after how New England quarterback Drake Maye played in the first three weeks. However, it is not entirely surprising given the Patriots always play Buffalo hard and usually come away with at least one win each year. That doesn't change the fact that they played well in their first three games, with solid wins over the Houston Texans, Detroit Lions, and Los Angeles Chargers. With Josh Allen at quarterback, Buffalo can win every game, and they have the firepower to do it on both sides of the ball.
- Seattle Seahawks (3-1) - Week 4 Ranking: 4
Los Angeles fought hard against the Seahawks, but Seattle ultimately got it done. Perhaps the most impressive thing about this win was that they didn't rely as heavily on receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba as they did in the first three games. The team balanced passing and running the ball, with Emanuel Wilson taking over as the lead running back. Like many teams in the NFL, they have dealt with some injuries, but they have weathered the storm so far.
- Baltimore Ravens (3-1) - Week 4 Ranking: 6
Baltimore has also dealt with injuries. Before this week, their biggest injury concern was Zay Flowers, who missed a game with a hamstring injury. Their attention has now shifted to Lamar Jackson, who is considered week-to-week and most likely will not play in their Sunday Night Football game against the Atlanta Falcons. When healthy through the first four games, they have been one of the best teams in the NFL without question. It remains to be seen how Jackson’s injury will impact their season.
