After an outstanding debut in the NFL that saw him named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team, Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson's status for the beginning of the 2026 regular season is in doubt – and the latest update on that front is not good news for fans of the franchise.
The Patriots announced on Sunday that Henderson did not practice with the team due to an injury. It's now been two weeks since the second-season tailback has practiced, and New England is set to open the season on Wednesday night with a Super Bowl rematch against the Seattle Seahawks. No further news has been released regarding whether or not he plans to play in that game.

Henderson was a critical piece of New England's offense during their run to an AFC Championship last season. He played in all 17 games for the Patriots in 2025, and started in four of those contests. He accumulated 911 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns, while adding 221 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. He also tied an NFL record for most games with multiple rushing touchdowns of 50+ yards.
Reports indicate the "clear-cut starter" for the Patriots at the position is Rhamondre Stevenson, who started the other 13 games at running back for the franchise last season. But Henderson finished with more rushing yards and more touchdowns than Stevenson last year, and the Patriots will feel more comfortable in Week 1 if they can get him back into the lineup.
