Quarterback Jameis Winston seems to have found himself a permanent home with the New York Giants, who just signed him to a two-year, $13 million contract extension, which will keep him with the Giants through the 2028 season.

Winston started in two games in relief of Jaxson Dart who missed weeks 11 and 12 with a concussion. In those games, New York lost both of those games against two NFC North opponents by seven points. He also got some action
in New York’s home against the Washington Commanders.
This will be Winston’s twelfth season in the NFL. He started his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was their No. 1 overall pick out of Florida State back in 2015. After five years, Tampa Bay released Winston to make Tom Brady the starting quarterback, and Winston was picked up by the New Orleans Saints, where he spent another four seasons and started only10 games. He spent 2024 with the Cleveland Browns and started seven games before being picked up by the Giants last season.
With Jaxson Dart as New York’s starting quarterback, the Giants wanted to secure their veteran backup, who has been a good mentor to Dart, who is going into his second season in the NFL. Winston also proved last season that he can serve as a competent backup quarterback if needed, making him an important part of the New York Giants going forward, even if he does not get much on-field action.
