If you are desperate for TE production and don't have a consensus top-12 Week 5 fantasy tight end, here are three highly unconventional, solid-upside bargains. Also, if you're planning to start one of those previously referenced top-12 fantasy TEs, these three are riskier than usual. As always, let's use FantasyPros' Week 5 composite rankings as our guide.
Start - Jake Ferguson, Dallas Cowboys (Ranked 16th)
The odds of Jake Ferguson hitting 10+ points are probably higher than CeeDee Lamb getting targeted 20+ times... again. The opposing Bucs are winless and reeling -- and for the record, most winless teams in October are, by definition, "reeling." I expect Dak Prescott & company to collect 30+ points, with Ferguson striking gold, or at least an expensive
silver.
Start - Cade Otton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Ranked 25th)
My early research shows that inexperienced starting quarterbacks lean slightly more on their running backs and tight ends through the air. Cade Otton should continue to serve as a safety valve for rookie QB Jalon Daniels, and he's earned six targets in each of his last three games. That's not bad for a desperation streamer, and it's also not bad that he's facing a beatable Dallas defense.
Start - Greg Dulcich, Miami Dolphins (Ranked 28th)
Yeah, we're going deep with these last two recommended dart throws. Assuming Miami's passing attack remains undermanned, Greg Dulcich could lead the team in receptions. His 5-for-55 receiving line last week gives the former third-round pick some momentum in a favorable matchup against Cincinnati.
Sit - Dalton Kincaid, Buffalo Bills (Ranked 7th)
As shared before, these recommended sits are always tough because top-12 tight ends are expected to post solid or even elite numbers. Dalton Kincaid clearly has slowed down since his blistering start, even with D.J. Moore hobbled. A road game against the Rams is less than ideal.
Sit - George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers (Ranked 4th)
The Seahawks have probably circled this home game against the 49ers since the schedule was released. It's now even more important, as a loss would put them two games behind San Francisco and make it a steep climb to claim a favorable playoff seed. I expect their defense to step up, to the detriment of George Kittle.
Sit - Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints (Ranked 9th)
Juwan Johnson is clicking. There's no other way to say it. However, Tyler Shough is on pace for the most QB passes in NFL history. He can't realistically keep this up, and now he's facing a fearsome Minnesota defense on a short week. I expect the Saints' offense to sputter more than usual, capping Johnson at no more than eight points.
