Vernon Davis is widely considered one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history. These days, life after a great career has taken his serial entrepreneur mindset up a notch. From building a restaurant empire to acting and working with names like Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis, to producing, learning musical instruments, and pursuing every creative outlet in between.
Davis recently sat down with Josh Petry of the Hoodie Chroniclez Podcast on YouTube to discuss his journey and a certain infamous incident involving former 49ers head coach Mike Singletary. For context, in October 2008, Singletary grew frustrated with Vernon Davis' lack of effort. During a game in which he sent Davis to the locker room, it ultimately affected Davis' career and became
a turning point.
Davis was asked how he turned a moment of anger into something positive in his career. He would say, "Every young guy that comes into the league is going to go through some trial and error, different phases of their career where they're trying to find themselves, and I think for me, as a young man coming into the league, I was trying to find myself and figure it out."
Davis would also say, "A guy like Mike Singletary was essential for me because he helped me figure it out and find that lane that I was looking for. The biggest thing that I wanted was to be a leader on the team that I was playing on, and that was the San Francisco 49ers. He helped me turn that thing around and be everything that they wanted me to be."
