Just hours after ruling their cornerback, Joey Porter Jr., out for their Thursday night game against the Cleveland Browns, the Pittsburgh Steelers traded him to the Dallas Cowboys for a sixth-round pick in 2027 and a second-round pick in 2028.

Porter had not played this season because of a back injury. However, in his previous three seasons with the Steelers from 2023 to 2025, he had three interceptions, 31 passes defended, a sack, and three tackles for loss. He finished fifth in the voting for Defensive Rookie of the Year back in 2023, although statistically, that was probably the worst
season of his young career.
For Dallas, this addresses a pressing need in the secondary, as the Cowboys have struggled against the pass again this year. The end of their game against the Baltimore Ravens in Brazil made that clear, as a good cornerback should have broken up the pass to Zay Flowers to keep the Ravens out of field-goal range with one second left.
This trade also adds to the recent history of trades between these two teams. Pittsburgh also sent receiver George Pickens to the Cowboys before the 2025 season and traded offensive lineman Broderick Jones to Dallas before this season. The Steelers now have numerous picks from the Cowboys in the 2027 NFL Draft as well as a pick from Dallas in 2028.
