The Washington Commanders received positive news regarding quarterback Jayden Daniels. While he has been officially ruled out for Washington’s game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Daniels will not be going on injured reserve and is considered week-to-week.

Surgery was an option for Daniels after dislocating his left elbow on the last play before halftime against the Dallas Cowboys. However, as he did last year when he dislocated this elbow,
he is choosing to prioritize returning to play as soon as possible. Last season, he missed three games with this injury before re-injuring his elbow and missing the final four games of the season.
Right now, Washington is sitting at 0-2 with both losses against division opponents - the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. They will be trying to get their first win of the year with backup quarterback Marcus Mariota, who started eight games last season and finished the game against Dallas. In those eight games last year, he went 2-6, with his only wins coming against the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Giants.
If Daniels were to follow the same timeline as last year when he initially suffered his elbow injury, he could return for Washington’s Week 6 Monday night matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Or the Commanders could wait until after the bye week in Week 7 and have him return against the Eagles in Week 8. In the meantime, Mariota must find a way to keep their playoff chances alive, or Washington will miss the playoffs for the second straight year.
