If you're a Lions fan, you're probably a fairly big fan of the work starting quarterback Jared Goff has done in his five years with the franchise. But head coach Dan Campbell feels like his QB1 is better than most NFL fans realize.
When discussing Goff with Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Campbell described his quarterback as "massively underrated." And while Goff was unable to lead the Lions to the postseason last year, it's hard to disagree with Campbell's sentiment after seeing the results the quarterback posted during Detroit's consecutive playoff runs in 2023 and 2024.
“This is a quarterback that plays the quarterback position—he knows how to play quarterback," Campbell said. "When you gotta have it, [he] can stand in the pocket, make
an accurate throw, an accurate read, and that’s what the quarterback position is. And he’s a rare breed of man.”
“His processing speed reminds me of Brees. He sees it, he sees it. And every year it’s gotten faster and faster. And then watch him under duress. Nobody makes a more accurate throw under duress than Jared Goff."

Whether Goff (a five-time Pro Bowler) is on the same level as Brees is a discussion to be had, but there is no denying the California alum has had a very impressive NFL career. During his 10 seasons in the league, split between the Rams and the Lions, Goff has passed for 39,622 yards, 256 touchdowns, and 102 interceptions while posting a 65.8% completion percentage and a record of 90-60-1 as a starter.
He has also helped lead his teams to the playoffs five times, earning a 4-5 record as a postseason starter and winning an NFC Championship with the Rams in 2018 before losing in Super Bowl LIII. And after making the postseason in back-to-back seasons before missing out last year, Lions fans will be eager to see Goff get them back again this year.
