If you are desperate for TE production and don't have a consensus top-12 Week 5 fantasy tight end, here are three highly unconventional, solid-upside bargains. Also, if you're planning to start one of those previously referenced top-12 fantasy TEs, these three are riskier than usual. As always, let's use FantasyPros' Week 5 composite rankings as our guide.
Start - Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams (Ranked 16th)
With Terrance Ferguson still on injured reserve, longtime Ram Tyler Higbee has stepped up, generally operating as Matthew Stafford's #2 or #3 receiving option. He'll turn 34 on New Year's Day, but age doesn't seem to matter for Higbee, who's playing his best football in years. A matchup against the Cardinals should keep him rolling.
Start -
Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons (Ranked 21st)
How far has Kyle Pitts' stock plummeted? Last year's overall TE2 is now outside the top 30, and his Week 6 rank suggests he's completely unstartable in fantasy. But Pitts won't be a season-long bust -- not to the degree we've seen so far. He has enough double-digit potential to warrant a strong dart throw.
Start - Colston Loveland, Chicago Bears (Ranked 15th)
Colston Loveland has scored 2.9 fewer fantasy points than Pitts. A similarly high-priced former first-round pick, Loveland is on pace for a 44-374-0 receiving line. In other words, things will balance out, and you don't want him on your bench when they do.
Sit - Dalton Kincaid, Buffalo Bills (Ranked 8th)
He was recommended as a sit last week because of a tough matchup against the Rams. I expect the Raiders to move the ball better this week than we've seen recently, keeping the ball out of Josh Allen's hands more than usual. Kincaid might get fewer than five looks. Given his Week 6 rankings, I'd call him a fade.
Sit - Harold Fannin Jr., Cleveland Browns (Ranked 10th)
I wasn't sold on Harold Fannin Jr. this preseason, and I wasn't sold on him even after his strong start. He usually won't get enough targets to stay in the top 10 unless he scores, and in this offense, scoring is a big weekly question mark.
Sit - Trey McBride, Arizona Cardinals (Ranked 3rd)
No way! Well, here's what we know. McBride isn't always a fantasy starter, scoring in single digits four times in 2024 and once last year. The opposing Rams have locked down prolific passing attacks. McBride probably will end up with around six catches for 37 yards on 11 targets. If you're happy with that, go for it. If not, then stun your friends and family and bench McBride.
