Three teams remain undefeated in the NFL, while four are still looking for their first win of the season. Among the undefeated teams, the San Francisco 49ers have faced the toughest schedule, already beating the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams.
The NFC North and the AFC North are the only divisions where every team has a winning record after the first five weeks. Meanwhile, the New England Patriots are back in the running for first place in their division after three straight wins. The Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills also pulled off close overtime wins.
Let’s take a look at this week’s power rankings. While the top five remain mostly intact, many changes appear below them.
- San Francisco 49ers (5-0) - Week 5 Ranking: 1
Like every year, the 49ers have dealt with a lot of injuries.
But you couldn't tell by how they play on the field. They came closest to containing Seattle receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba of anyone this season, and their defense forced four turnovers. San Francisco is the best team in the NFL right now and faces what should be an easy Week 6 game against the Washington Commanders on Monday Night.
- Kansas City Chiefs (4-0) - Week 5 Ranking: 2
Kansas City had a bye in Week 5. During their bye week, the Las Vegas Raiders and the Los Angeles Chargers both lost, though the Denver Broncos are right behind the Chiefs for the division lead. But with Patrick Mahomes healthy, Kansas City is always a top contender. They could use another wide receiver, though.
- Seattle Seahawks (3-2) - Week 5 Ranking: 4
Their game against the 49ers came down to less than a yard on fourth down despite four turnovers, a lack of a rushing attack, and an inability to feed the ball to Smith-Njigba every play. The loss to the Washington Commanders a few weeks ago seems more like a fluke because this team is elite. It will certainly help their offense when running back Jadarian Price comes back.
- Buffalo Bills (4-1) - Week 5 Ranking: 3
Quarterback Josh Allen can do almost anything, but the game against the Los Angeles Rams came down to a blocked field goal by Greg Rousseau and a made field goal by Tyler Bass. This was surely Buffalo’s most impressive win of the season against a highly talented Rams team, despite the Rams' record. It seems like the Chiefs and Bills could be on a collision course to play each other in the playoffs once again.
- Baltimore Ravens (4-1) - Week 5 Ranking: 5
Tyler Huntley looked like Lamar Jackson on the final drive of regulation. Even without their star quarterback, Baltimore won in overtime against an underrated Atlanta Falcons team. The Ravens have an elite running back in Derrick Henry, who is still in his prime, and their defense will help them win a lot of games.
- Jacksonville Jaguars (4-1)
- Minnesota Vikings (5-0)
- Atlanta Falcons (3-2)
- Detroit Lions (3-2)
- Los Angeles Rams (2-3)
- Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2)
- Chicago Bears (3-2)

- Houston Texans (1-4)
- Cleveland Browns (3-2)
- New York Giants (3-1-1)
- New Orleans Saints (1-4)
- New York Jets (2-3)
- Arizona Cardinals (1-4)
- Washington Commanders (1-3-1)
- Los Angeles Chargers (0-5)
- Miami Dolphins (0-5)
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-5)
- Tennessee Titans (0-5)
