Welcome to Week 9, where every lineup decision feels a little more important. Fantasy production doesn't always come from the biggest names on your roster. Sometimes it's the quarterback making plays with his legs, the running back quietly racking up targets or the overlooked receiver who's one favorable matchup away from a breakout. This week's streamers are all about finding those opportunities and taking advantage of them when they matter most.
Bye Weeks: Pittsburgh and Tennessee
QB: Malik Willis, Miami vs. Detroit
Why I like him: Willis has quietly emerged as an intriguing fantasy option thanks to his ability to make plays with his legs. He currently ranks third among quarterbacks with 225 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns this season. While his passing yardage typically
leaves something to be desired, his rushing production provides a valuable fantasy floor. He's also showing improvement through the air, throwing four touchdown passes over his last two games, a trend that could continue against Detroit.
The Lions have been a dream matchup for opposing quarterbacks, allowing the most fantasy points per game to the position. They've also surrendered significant production to wide receivers, which bodes well for Willis and Miami's young receiving corps. Willis has started developing chemistry with his playmakers, particularly Caleb Douglas, who we've highlighted in this series before. With his rushing upside and a favorable matchup, Willis has a legitimate opportunity to deliver a strong fantasy performance in Week 9.
The play: Fantasy managers can fire up Willis as their starting quarterback with confidence in Week 9.
RB: Dylan Sampson, Cleveland vs. New Orleans
Why I like him: Sampson may not have the highest rushing ceiling, but his involvement in Cleveland's passing game makes him an intriguing fantasy option, especially in PPR formats. The second-year running back has dealt with injuries that limited him to just two games this season, but he's wasted no time getting involved since returning to the lineup. Sampson has posted a 47.7% route participation rate and earned nine targets across those two appearances, indicating he has a meaningful role in the Browns' passing attack.
This week's matchup against New Orleans makes him even more appealing. The Saints are allowing an average of 37 receiving yards and more than 100 rushing yards per game to opposing running backs. Although Sampson's fantasy value is more likely to come through the air than on the ground, that receiving opportunity gives him a solid foundation for production in Week 9.
The play: Sampson is a viable FLEX option in PPR leagues, especially for managers dealing with injuries or bye weeks.
WR: DeMario Douglas, New England vs. Green Bay
Why I like him: The Patriots' offense is starting to resemble a New England winter, and the forecast isn't looking particularly promising. A.J. Brown continues to deal with injuries that could keep him sidelined. Romeo Doubs remains on injured reserve, TreVeyon Henderson missed Sunday's game and Hunter Henry exited with a foot injury. Despite the growing list of unavailable playmakers, New England continues to find ways to move the football, and Douglas is making a compelling case for more opportunities.
Douglas made the most of his chances in Week 8, catching all three of his targets for 76 yards and a touchdown. While several Patriots pass catchers could be worth considering, Douglas stands out with a 14.6% target share and a team-leading 16.6% first-read target rate from Drake Maye among the three receivers we're evaluating. Green Bay's defense has performed better than expected without Micah Parsons, but the Packers are still allowing 34.3 fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers. With injuries creating additional opportunities and a favorable matchup, Douglas has the potential to build on last week's performance.
The play: Douglas is a Week 9 FLEX option, particularly in deeper PPR leagues.
TE: AJ Barner, Seattle vs. Arizona
Why I like him: It's easy to overlook Barner in Seattle's offense when Jaxon Smith-Njigba seems to be putting up record-breaking numbers every week. However, Barner has quietly carved out a consistent role, seeing at least four targets in each of his last four games. He's averaging about six fantasy points per game, which isn't exactly setting the fantasy world on fire, but he's the type of tight end who can deliver when the matchup is right.
Week 9 presents exactly that opportunity. Arizona has been a favorable matchup for opposing tight ends, allowing an average of 5.5 targets and 56 receiving yards per game. Barner's steady involvement in Seattle's passing attack gives him a chance to capitalize, especially against a defense that has struggled to contain tight ends. He's also widely available on the waiver wire, making him an accessible option for fantasy managers seeking a one-week rental. Besides, everything can't go to JSN, right?
The play: Barner is a matchup-dependent tight end streamer for Week 9.
FLEX: Jordan Addison, Minnesota vs. Buffalo
Why I like him: Addison hasn't been lighting up fantasy scoreboards this season, but Week 9 gives the talented wide receiver a chance to remind us of what he's capable of. Buffalo has been a favorable matchup for opposing wideouts, allowing the fifth-most fantasy points per game to the position, including 1.6 touchdowns per game and 8.17 yards per target.
Admittedly, Addison's production has been underwhelming, averaging just 8.2 fantasy points per game. However, his involvement in Minnesota's offense tells a more encouraging story. He's commanding a 19.6% target share and running routes on 91.2% of passing plays, suggesting the opportunities are there even if the fantasy production hasn't consistently followed. We've seen Addison deliver big performances in the past, and there's no reason to believe that talent has disappeared just because he's having a down year. With a favorable matchup against a vulnerable Buffalo secondary, Week 9 could be the opportunity he needs to get back on track.
The play: Addison is a high-upside FLEX option in Week 9, particularly for managers looking to swing for the fences.
One Last Thing
The playoffs are approaching, the margin for error is shrinking and every win counts. Trust the opportunities and don't be afraid to give an overlooked player a shot. Good luck in Week 9 and keep grinding!
