Hugo González as been keeping busy ahead of Boston Celtics training camp, with a full slate of basketball and player development work already behind him. The Spaniard opened up about his offseason in a recent chatwith CLNS Media, sharing how the contours of a critical offseason have gone for him. "I've been playing FIBA qualifiers, then I played Summer League, I played FIBA qualifiers again, and I've had a lot of weeks in Boston in the meantime," said González, "working on things that you may use as a secondary (tactic)."
"But you need to have (those moves), and being an all-around player and trying to help the team in as (many) things as I can, (to) just keep developing," added the Madrid native. As to whether his role changes in international
play, González replied that "you need to find yourself in the game."
"And you need to adjust what to what the game is asking for, so I wouldn't say one role, (that) I've got one role here in Spain," he explained. González' role might have changed in the NBA had a trade ask in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes been assented to by Boston, but the former Real Madrid reserve remained with the Celtics.
But Boston's 28th pick of the 225 NBA Draft is evidently okay with the pressure such a scenario may bring. "When you're going to the NBA, you know that you can get traded," said González. "I wouldn't be the first person to get traded, (or) the last person to get traded."
"It's something that you've got to know when you get to the NBA, when you get to the league, that your contract can be traded and it's part of the business too. So, you've got to realize that you can't control it, actually, so just let the time (pass) and just see what happens."
